I'm Daniel Dahinden & I'm an Illustrator
I'm Dan. I live near Lucerne in Switzerland with my small family and work in youth work on the side. I draw and paint in the evenings and during my lunch breaks.
I loved drawing as a kid, but stopped at some point. During the covid lockdown I started programming small games and needed art for them. That brought me back, and in 2021 I decided to give drawing a real chance. I've drawn every day since then. It's a challenge I don't plan to break.
I paint fantasy, because reality only has so much magic. I like magical moments, stories about outsiders and characters with a soft core. I got my ADHD diagnosis in 2024. Before that I just assumed I was different and never quite functioned right, so I think that's why I connect with these characters. Goblins are a good example. In fantasy they are mostly the stupid enemy, and I wanted to give them a story.
My originals are painted on cotton watercolor paper with watercolor or gouache. Somewhere in each one is my signature, Lenny, a skeleton with a flower growing out of his head.
I hope my work makes you smile and reminds you that there is something beautiful in everything. I'm also part of Lighthouse Inkers, four illustrators who share work and feedback. Our Discord is a cosy place for anyone who makes or likes art. For requests and commissions, please use the contact form. 🌱
